Dear
families,
Learning about traditions and celebrations is a large part of our Grade
2 curriculum in Social Studies. Hopefully you know that your child has studied
many of the traditions and celebrations of Canada and the world during this
school year.
The students have decided that they would love to have a celebration of
our combined class heritage. As such, we are holding a world heritage feast on Monday, May 4th, 2013, during the morning.
Please choose a dish that is traditional to one country from your family
heritage. Write up the ingredients clearly (so that I can ensure that those
students not permitted to eat certain foods, stay clear of them). The name of
the dish and the list of ingredients should be placed with the dish on the day
of the feast. Please only send in enough to feed up to 2 people. The idea is
for everyone to taste – not that they should stuff themselves! Obviously, please send nothing containing
peanuts.
In addition, students should please wear an outfit that is emblematic
of a country in your heritage. For example, someone with Scottish heritage
might wear a kilt, someone with Bengali heritage might wear a sari and someone
with Russian heritage might wear a Sarafan.
Since there will be a wide variety of foods available on the day of the
feast, your permission for your child’s participation is required, along with
details regarding any foods that your child cannot eat for health, religious,
or ethical reasons.
Please also indicate what dish you are planning to bring and describe
it briefly on the letter that is coming home today.
Thanks in advance!
Mmes Paré.
