Homework.
This week, we started to learn about the fact the world is made up of continents, countries, oceans, and seas. For homework, the students are bringing home a sheet of paper that has a map of the world at the top and a table to fill in at the bottom. The homework has been explained to the students, but just in case they forget...

The first row is asking for the city/town in which the student, then one parent, then the other parent were born.
The second row asks the same question regarding the country.
The third row asks which continent.

You may want to use word reference to help translate country names.

Hallowe'en

This Friday, the day of the Hallowe'en Howl, students are invited to come to school in costume! Please, no weapons though. To celebrate, we will be watching a movie in the afternoon.

On Monday, the actual day of Hallowe'en, the school will NOT be celebrating, so please leave costumes at home.

I look forward to seeing the students' costumes!
Happy Hallowe'en.

Students are bringing home a letter titled "Growing Patterns". It explains a little activity I would encourage you to do at home to give students practise with creating growing patterns. An example of a growing pattern is one where you add 2 each time. E.g. begin with one coin, add two more, add two more, add two more etc.
If you like, take photos of your child's patterns and email them to me. I'd be very happy to add them to the blog!

Tuesday 4 October 2016

Reading book and homework clarification.

Some students have brought their reading book back today and yesterday. To clarify, reading books are due every Thursday. Please read with your child EVERY DAY. Books are due back on Thursdays so that I can read with your child and give him/her a new book.  When we have a short week, such as this one (with the PA day on Friday), I may not have the opportunity to read with each student and so he/she may keep the book for an additional week.

Regarding spelling words: Spelling tests (Dictée) will be every Friday unless we have a Friday PA day or holiday. On weeks where there is no school on Friday, the dictée will be on Thursday.

Look who's speaking French!

Today THREE students made it to 10 positive points for speaking French during class! See their smiles!

Picture Day!

Don't forget that it's picture day tomorrow! If you have your form, please send it in with your child.
Thanks!
